Stroke Prevention
The Cambio CDS Stroke Prevention Application is a computerized and machine-readable adaptation of The Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare’s national clinical guidelines for the prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation or flutter. Embedded in an EHR system, the clinical decision support (CDS) application automatically fetches demographic data, diagnoses, and medication history from the patient’s medical record, and using rule-based logic, calculates a risk score known as CHA2DS2-VASc. This score is used to estimate the patient’s risk of developing a stroke within one year. All of this happens automatically in the background requiring no input from the clinician. Patients with an elevated risk of stroke without anticoagulation therapy are automatically flagged, and a recommendation to commence treatment with anticoagulants is presented to the user at the point of care.
